PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Crews loaded up the Capital Christmas tree Wednesday from a home in the 600 block of North Huron Avenue in Pierre. Dawn Hill, co-coordinator of the Christmas at the Capitol display says the group was approached about a pair of possible candidates.
Hill says they get contacted all year about possible candidates to be placed in the Rotunda.
Hill says around 86 trees made up the annual display and they expect that again.
Hill had thanks for A-G-E Corporation of Fort Pierre for providing the crane used to move the tree from the vertical to the horizontal on a flatbed from the South Dakota Department of Transportation and Dr. John Ball and his forestry team from South Dakota State University. The tree in the front yard will be harvested for use as Fort Pierre’s Christmas tree. The grand lighting ceremony for Christmas at the Capitol is November 23rd.
