CASTLEWOOD, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says a 30-year-old woman from Castlewood has been arrested in the death of a 2-year-old girl. Authorities were called Tuesday morning about an unresponsive girl at a home in Castlewood. The girl was taken to a Watertown hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An initial investigation found evidence of child abuse.

The manner of death is pending results of an autopsy. The state attorney general’s office says the woman was arrested on a charge of felony child abuse, and additional charges are pending. The case is being prosecuted by the Hamlin County state’s attorney, and the investigation continues. The name of the girl and her relationship to the woman were not disclosed.
