Cattlemen’s Association leader says new facility critical at State Fairgrounds

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is asking legislators for $12 million for a new livestock building on the State Fairgrounds in Huron. The new complex would double the space of the previous one which caught fire in October. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings says it’s critical that that facility be replaced and be big enough to handle more use and events.

He says due to the pandemic, South Dakota is now attracting more rodeo events and having this type of complex would help.

Jennings says its important to keep investing in the state’s number one industry, agriculture and this complex fits that.

The new complex would be 200,000 square feet and would have enough space for two rodeo areas and enough room for both open class and 4H beef cattle.
