PLATTE, S.D. (WNAX) – South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, in an op-ed in the “Wall Street Journal” said if the industrial hemp issue comes back before the 2020 legislature, she will veto it again. A bill legalizing hemp passed the legislature earlier this year but was vetoed by the Governor.
Representative Lee Qualm of Platte Chairs the current industrial hemp interim study committee.
Qualm says they hope federal rules, when issued, will help clear up the issue.
Qualm says he would like to sit down with the Governor and other officials to talk about it again.
The interim industrial hemp committee is scheduled to meet again in October.
