Chair of Legislative Task Force on corrections comments on the meeting held Tuesday

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A committee that will study the building needs of the South Dakota Department of Corrections held their first meeting Tuesday in Pierre.

Senator Michael Diedrich of Rapid City, Chair of the “Legislative Task Force on Incarceration Construction Fund” laid out his plans.

Diedrich says Corrections is dealing with some very old buildings.

Diedrich says there are some projections of the space that will be needed in the future.

The DLR Group gave the state a report in January that called for spending up to six hundred million dollars for new corrections facilities at several sites across the state.
