HURON, S.D.(KOKK)- The South Dakota legislature has two Summer study committee’s this year. One is concerning long term care facilities the second is on the many expenses for county government that the state designates the counties to handle. Chairperson of the County Spending study committee is Representative Roger Chase of Huron, their third of four meetings was held last week.
The recommendations of the Summer study committee will go into proposed legislation in 2024. Chase said many of the issues that counties face are ongoing issues in state government.
Of the states 66 counties some with smaller populations talk about being close to insolvency. Chase talks about some of their expenses that the state designates to them.
The final meeting will be in September.
