Chamber leader says cuts likely in state budget

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – A near halt in business statewide will cause a severe jolt to state revenues this year.

Dave Owen, President of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says a special session of the legislature will be critical.

Owen, a long-time legislative lobbyist, says lawmakers may have to adjust the current year budget, too.

Owen says cuts are likely to next year’s budget.

A date has not yet been set, but Governor Kristi Noem has said she will call a special session once they have a few months of tax reports.
