Christmas at the Capitol event held Tuesday at Pierre

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Another season of Christmas at the Capitol flipped the switch on another season Tuesday night.  Pierre Mayor Steve Harding emceed the Grand Lighting Ceremony and says the true gift of Christmas are the memories around a Christmas tree.

This year’s Capitol Christmas tree is a 27 foot Black Hills Spruce from Onida.  Governor Kristi Noem says the tree was one of two planted by Larry and Claire Martin in honor of twin infant sons who passed away in 1984.

The Jessie and Katie Harris family and their seven children; who are foster children helped light the tree.  Noem says the Harris family is setting an example by their action.

A total of 90 trees make up this year’s Christmas at the Capitol display.  Christmas at the Capitol is open daily from eight-am to ten=pm from now through December 26th.
