Christmas at the Capitol event held Tuesday night

PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- On Tuesday night was the 2021 Christmas at the Capitol in the South Dakota Capitol Rotunda in Pierre.

Governor Kristi Noem told a little about her young guest who pushed the button to turn on the display.

The governor then expanded on what this year’s “Winter Wishes” theme means to her.

Noem went on to say.

The featured tree, a 25-foot Colorado Blue Spruce, was decorated by the South Dakota Christmas at the Capitol Committee in honor of their 40th Anniversary. The tree was donated by Austyn and Jessica Gackle of Pierre. The entire display includes more than 80 trees decorated by volunteers from communities, schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and state government offices.

The holiday display will be open to the public from 8am-10pm daily, starting today (Nov. 24). The last day to view the Christmas tree display is Dec. 26, 2021.
