YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- Governor Kristi Noem has proposed giving state employees a six percent raise as part of her 2023 budget plan.

While good for workers, that may cause problems for local governments.

Yankton City Manager Amy Leon says while they have an agreement with the workers union, that may need to be adjusted.

Leon says the police department is working several officers short.

Leon says they continue to look to fill a number of job openings.

Leon says they also have two department head openings in the fire department and in human resources.
