City continues attack on mosquitoes

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – A wet year has led to plenty of mosquitoes. However, the good news is that the culex variety, the ones that carry the West Nile Virus, are dying out.

Mark Hoven, Parks Superintendent with the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, said that most of the mosquitoes remaining are of the nuisance variety.

Hoven said dealing with fall mosquitoes is a bit more challenging than battling the summer mosquitoes.

The good news is that the number of reported West Nile cases was down this year, not only locally, but throughout the state.
