FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The City of Fort Pierre has been awarded a one-point-nine million dollar grant to help in making improvements to Fort Pierre’s Tatanka Trail. Mayor Gloria Hanson says the grant award was a long shot.
That delay may impact how Fort Pierre can use the funds because of deadlines in which the money must be used. Hanson says any impact should be minor.
Hanson says the grant will help increase the quality of life value in Fort Pierre.
Hanson says one of the first things likely to be done with the grant is installing a pedestrian bridge over the marina behind Drifter’s Bar and Grill. She also expects development of an outdoor visitor’s center in the so-called “porkchop” area between Highway 14 and Perkins instead of the bridge plaza due to the bridge’s construction delays.
