PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The City of Pierre has received a grant from the South Dakota Department of Health to help with building a trail for recreation on the city’s east side. Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton says the idea for the trail came shortly after the Oahe Wheelmen Cycling Club helped establish a biking trail northwest of the Oahe Dam.
Tipton says the focus for the grant application was to serve residents east of Garfield Avenue and near the Northstar neighborhood.
Tipton says the trail will have uses for everyone.
The trail will be approximately four miles long. The grant will be used for design, signage and some culvert work. Officials hope to have the trail open, weather permitting next year.
