City of Sioux Falls announce their crime stats

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- The latest crime stats are out for Sioux Falls…and Mayor Paul TenHaken says they’re good.

Police Chief Jon Thum (TOMB) says drug offenses and car thefts mushroomed, but violent crime dropped.

Violent crime in the city did increase in one area…offenses against law enforcement officers.

Minnehaha County Chief Deputy Jeff Gromer says most of those assaults took place behind bars.

Officials say Sioux Falls is seeing more crime, but crime per capita rates are holding steady, and the city remains safe.

Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead says the open door at our southwestern border has made every county in the U-S a border county.

He says we won’t be able to control the flow of deadly drugs until the border is shut down.

Sheriff Milstead says if those pills don’t come from a pharmacist prescribed to you, they are likely to contain a deadly dose.
