YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- The double deck Meridian Bridge over the Missouri River was reopened to walkers and bikers Monday morning after being closed for safety reasons Sunday night.
Yankton City Manager Amy Leon says they had engineers take a closer look at the structure.
Leon says they have to react to possible public safety issues.
The bridge was closed after public reports to the police department of noises from the Nebraska side of the bridge.
Leon says they aren’t sure what caused those noises.
The bridge originally opened in 1924 and was converted into a walking – biking structure in 2012.
