YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- While the South Dakota legislature debates possible funding for regional jails, Clay County will be working on its own new facility.
Voters in November approved a thirty nine million dollar bond issue for a new combined law enforcement center.
Clay County Sheriff Andy Howe says their jail could fit into a regional concept.
Howe says they had planned to work with Turner County in any case.
Howe says many counties are looking for jail space.
A legislative summer study committee had come up with several recommendations on regional jails for the 2023 session.
