PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – According to E&E Energy News, at least 13 coal fired electric generating plants across the country will be closed over the next few years, with more to join the list.
South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Chris Nelson says that trend will accelerate.
Nelson says people in the northern plains have some unique energy needs.
Nelson says they want to see a diversified energy generation mix.
The state depends on power from large coal fired plants near Big Stone City, Sioux City Iowa and in Wyoming.
