WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- During their regular meeting Wednesday, The Codington County Commissioners approved a formal supplement to the General Fund budget. The supplement was necessary to allocate $275,697.80 for court-appointed attorney budget expenditures. A line item within the budget that causes an annually growing deficit.
County Auditor Brenda Hanten explains more to the Commissioners.
The funds received through the clerk’s office are part of a Catastrophic Legal Expense Reimbursement Program or “CLERP,” as referenced. These funds cover the costs of large trials that the county must pay for.
After a brief public hearing in which no one came up, the commission unanimously approved a motion to move the funds into the General Fund.
