WATERTOWN, S.D.(Press Release)} Codington County Commissioners voted to continuing support the on-going success of the Boys and Girls Club of Watertown’s Juvenile Justice Reinvestment Initiative after Director of Youth Diversion and Prevention Louis Canfield presented an update.

The program has seen a rise in simple assault and tobacco/vape continues to be the primary issue. Partnering with the Human Service Agency, Fallout Shelter Ministries and Codington County Community Service helps in curbing the assaults with various anger management programs.

It is about long-term success, but positive results are being shown.
Canfield says the program is making an impact on vaping.
State funding of over $82,700 goes to the County for 331 successfully completed cases and it’s being requested to pass through those funds to the Boys and Girls Club of Watertown. Canfield cites with the growth of the program having a full-time assistant would be beneficial.
States Attorney Rebecca Morlock-Reeves commented her appreciation for the success of the program.
The Commissioners voted unanimously to approve.
