Cold and snow likely to continue for a while

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (WNAX) – It doesn’t look like the cold and snowy pattern over the northern plains will break anytime soon.

Todd Heitkamp at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says they don’t see much change for the next couple of weeks.

Heitkamp says the jet stream buckled, allowing the arctic air to continue to flow southward.

And what will it take for the pattern to change?

Heitkamp says the longer the cold and snow persist, the greater the flood potential will be.
