PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – A legislative committee looking at possible changes to drug laws met this week in Pierre.
The “Offenses Regarding Controlled Substances” interim study heard about increased drug offenses and treatment options.
Committee Chairman, Representative Steven Haugaard of Sioux Falls says there can always be improvements.
Minnehaha County States Attorney Aaron McGowen told the committee that drug treatment would be more cost effective rather than going through the courts.
Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says he would like to hear what other states are doing with drug treatment.
The committee will meet again later this fall as they attempt to come up with legislation for the 2020 session.
