PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – A legislative committee studying illegal drugs and treatment options met this week in Pierre.
The “Offenses Regarding Controlled Substances” interim held their third meeting of the interim.
Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says he could support a proposal for evaluations of those facing drug charges.
Ravnsborg says treatment needs have to be better defined.
Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton says they could look at expanding a juvenile treatment program.
Committee Chairman Representative Steven Haugaard of Sioux Falls says they need hard numbers on any treatment expansions.
Haugaard says they will meet again next month to see if they can come up with any legislative recommendations.
