AVON, S.D. (WNAX) – The “Special Education Interim Legislative Committee” will meet again today in Pierre.
The committee is looking at the increasing demands and costs of special education for public schools. One presentation will be on full funding of the federal I.D.E.A., or Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Committee member, Avon Superintendent Tom Culver, says that program has never been fully funded.
Culver says more of their students need extra services.
Culver says specialized services that students need are becoming more expensive.
