Committee to look at state’s drug issues

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Another South Dakota legislative committee dealing with drug issues meets Monday.

The “Offenses Regarding Controlled Substances Interim Study” will hold their first meeting of the summer.

Committee Vice Chair, Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton says they will outline what they hope to achieve.

Kennedy says the state is unique when it comes to enforcing drug laws.

Kennedy says this is one part of a multi-level study of illegal drugs in the state.

The committee will hear from the Unified Judicial System and take public testimony. The meeting is at 10 a.m. Monday in Pierre.
