PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- Utility companies across the country are rapidly moving toward reducing carbon emissions connected to generating electricity.
South Dakota Public Utilities Commission Chairman Chris Nelson says its been going on for a while.
Nelson says most of the state utilities have made major reductions already.
Nelson says while federal and state regulations play a part, most carbon reductions are driven by the marketplace.
Nelson says utilities decide what types of generation and carbon reductions they will use and then come to the PUC for rate approvals.
