Conditions prime for potential grassfires

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – While many people have their attention on potential frost and low temperatures at this time of the year, the conditions are also prime for grassfires.

Dry and windy circumstances can lead to major problems should a fire get started. Scott Meints, Brown County Emergency Management Director, talked about the situation.

He said most rural fire departments are staffed by volunteers who have other full-time jobs.

Meints also has his attention on the current COVID-19 numbers. While the active cases are at an all-time high in Brown County, he said there are still plenty of hospital beds available.

He said his office is willing to offer guidance for those planning upcoming events, but will leave the final decision up to them.
