YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The Yankton County Commission held a special meeting Friday to discuss a moratorium on confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs).
On the advice of States Attorney Rob Klimisch, the commission took no action on the moratorium.
Commission Chairman Dan Klimisch says they had indications that the county zoning ordinance would be challenged.
Klimisch says there is the potential that much of the county could lose zoning protection.
States Attorney Klimisch advised the commission to wait and see if a legal challenge is actually filed before they take formal action.
Chairman Klimisch says he would prefer being more active.
The commission also heard about stop work order notices that were sent to some CAFOs that were under construction. Hearings on those stop orders will be held early next month.
