Congressman Johnson statement on GOP Debt Limit proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) issued a statement following the release of the Republican plan to ensure America does not default on its debts.

“We are $32 trillion in debt, and in six weeks our nation defaults on our debts. We are duty-bound to address both of those crises. Republicans have a reasonable plan to do so,” said Johnson. “We have worked collaboratively to put forward a plan that grows the economy, decreases unnecessary spending, and increases opportunity for Americans. I’m proud to have been a part of efforts to draft this plan and am especially grateful the Speaker included so many Republican Main Street Caucus priorities in his plan.”

The Republican Main Street Caucus, of which Johnson is Chair, requested the Speaker include spending caps, work requirements, and bills that grow the economy in any debt limit proposal. The Republican debt limit proposal includes all of those provisions.
