IRENE, S.D.(WNAX)- Changes in construction plans will lead to a sooner than expected detour on Highway 46 in southeast South Dakota.

Regional D.O.T. Engineer Greg Rothschadl says the work from Irene west to Highway 81 was always planned to be a two year project.

Rothschadl says there are six bridges to be replaced in that twelve mile stretch.

Rothschadl says they are setting up a detour around the project which will start next week.

Rothschadl says they will have a public open house to talk about the project next Wednesday at the Irene Community Center at 6PM.
