PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – Northern Plains Senators weighed in with the Environmental Protection Agency by filing comments on their Renewable Fuel Standard proposal. They called for EPA Chief Andrew Wheeler to honor the President’s commitment on making the 15 billion-gallon RFS standard.
South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds also met with the President and asked him to follow through on that commitment. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Doug Noem thinks that’s encouraging.
He says it also helps the corn and biofuels industries received help from the Senators on the RFS issue.
Noem says what’s needed now is for everyone to contact their lawmakers and the administration and make their views known on the importance of the RFS and making sure the lost biofuel volumes are accounted for.
The Senators in their comments to the EPA expressed concerns about the way the agency plans to calculate the reallocation of biofuel gallons lost due to the exemptions granted to the oil refineries.
