ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- At the end of Monday night’s city council meeting, the council discussed a flyer that was sent out by city council candidate Andy Schaunaman regarding the election of the city manager that replaced Lynn Lander in 2020.
Schaunaman’s flyer read the following:
“Aberdeen was only ONE VOTE away from hiring a liberal city manager, ONE VOTE from creating a mask mandate and ONE VOTE from extending forced COVID business closings”.
Councilwoman Tiffany Langer raised the issue to the council.
At no time did she released the name that was on the flyer.
Langer expressed concerns about topics being discussed in executive session being made public.
Councilman Rob Ronayne asked Mayor Schaunaman how his brother obtained the information.
Councilman Mark Remily questioned why it was important to know what affiliation the city manager will me.
Remily questions Mayor Schaunaman about the flyers sent out by his brother.
The meeting was adjourned on a 7-2 vote with Remily & Ronayne both opposing.
Langer said that being liberal isn’t something she’s concerned with.
After the meeting Langer told the Aberdeen American News:
“All that matters is that everyone who sits there has the best interest of the city in mind,”
The paper reached out to Andy Schaunaman. Schaunaman told the paper he expressed concerns about one of the finalists being too liberal.
