COVID-19 cases confirmed at Northern, athletic workouts suspended

ABERDEEN, S.D. (By American News Staff Reports) – The South Dakota Department of Health has confirmed that several Northern State University students have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a release from the school.

At least one person who has tested positive attended youth girls athletic camps on campus. They were:

  • Volleyball camp on July 20 and 21.
  • Basketball camp on July 23 and 24.
  • Soccer camp on July 24, 25 and 26.

Individuals considered close contacts to the person diagnosed who was at those camps will be notified by the state Department of Health, according to the release.

On-campus workouts in progress have also been suspended, according to Northern. But fall sports athletic practices and competitions have not been canceled or delayed aside from an earlier announcement from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference that delayed those activities league-wide. Students will still report for the start of classes in August with practices and competitions to begin in September and October.
