YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Health experts had been predicting a big peak in coronavirus cases around July 1 with as many as 130,000 infections statewide.
Doug Ekeren, President of Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton says it now looks like a lower peak and more sporadic outbreaks.
Ekeren says their planning predicted up to 13,000 cases in their seven county service area.
Ekeren says those predicted peaks are coming down due to precautions taken by the public.
The state Health Department is reporting that 54 percent of all hospital beds are available, and 47 percent of ICU beds are open.
