Cynthia Marie Underberg was born March 3, 1955 to Edward H. and Marie A. (Nelson) Underberg in Sioux Falls, SD. At a young age she and her family moved to a farm near Havana, ND. She attended schooling in Havana until the 8th grade before enrolling in Britton High School, where she graduated in 1973.

After graduation she began working various jobs around Britton. She worked at Tom’s Drive-In, Britton Café, restaurant manager at Sylvester’s and Buhl’s Dry Cleaning. In 1994 she began working at Hortons in Britton, and worked there until her retirement in May of 2021. She was a dedicated worker and willing to take on multiple roles or stepping in wherever needed.

In January 1989 she was blessed with her son Royce Friebel. She enjoyed spending time with him, even if that meant getting him out of school early on Fridays to spend time at their cabin on Roy Lake or out boating. Being an avid sports fan, she attended all his sporting events growing up, and in the later years going to NASCAR and NFL games together. Cindy was proud of Royce, and cherished all their memories, trips and moments together over the years.

Cindy loved to travel and had been to all 50 states, plus multiple countries. She loved to experience the things life had to offer and was always ready for an adventure, a long car ride, a concert, a sporting event, or anything where she was surrounded by family and friends. She truly was a people person and made many wonderful friends over the years. Many times on vacations or at events Cindy would be seen just sitting back, taking it all in and enjoying each second.

In her free time she was a talented embroiderer and enjoyed reading. She kept scorebook for many years for the Green Merchants softball team and enjoyed attending local sporting events. In her younger years she liked bowling, and was once Bowler of the Year! Even after her cancer diagnosis Cindy made sure to live life to the fullest and she did that surrounded by her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by many.

Cindy passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Marshall County Healthcare Center at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her son, Royce Friebel of Britton; her brothers, Keith (Naomi) Underberg of Barnard, SD and Lonnie (Gina) Underberg of West, Texas; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kevin; infant sister, Cathy; infant brothers, Allen and Cory; and her partner, Roger Friebel.
