BROOKINGS, S.D. (WNAX) – Dairy groups want the Food and Drug Administration to quit dragging their feet and ensure imitation dairy product rules are enforced. South Dakota Dairy Producer’s President Marv Post says this is an issue they’ve been fighting for some time and consumers need to know specifically what they’re getting at the grocery store.
He shares the concerns of the National Milk Producers Federation about the bureaucratic logjam at the FDA that needs to be cleared up so the labeling rules can be effectively enforced.
Post says it’s up to the consumer to decide what they want to buy and if the labeling is handled correctly, they’ll most likely buy real dairy products.
The dairy groups say unlawfully labeled plant-based imitations foods poses an immediate and growing risk to public health.
