Dakota State’s Perry Named NSAA POW

BISMARCK, ND (PlayNorthStar.com) – The North Star Athletic Association announced their seventh edition of the Baseball Players-of-the-Week Monday by the conference office.  Dustin Schorie of Bellevue (Neb.) was selected as the Pitcher-of-the-Week for the second straight week.  Aidan Perry of Dakota State (S.D.) was chosen as the Player-of-the-Week.

Dustin Schorie – Bellevue (Neb.) – Senior – pitcher – Chandler, Ariz. – Schorie tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout in No. 13 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) 10-0 home victory over Peru State (Neb.).  He did not allow a runner to reach third base.  Schorie scattered four singles and registered eight strikeouts in the game, recording a K/9 strikeout ratio of 10.29.  He lifted his pitching record to 5-1 this season.

Aidan Perry – Dakota State (S.D.) – Sophomore – second baseman – Dripping Springs, Texas – Perry recorded at least two hits in all four games, fueling Dakota State (S.D.) to their North Star Athletic Association four-game home series sweep over Dickinson State (N.D.).  He also smashed three home runs and drove in 11 runs in the series.  Perry produced a batting average of .692 by going 9-of-13 at the plate, 1.385 slugging percentage, and recorded an on-base percentage of .688.  He scored nine times, scoring at least a run in all four games against the Blue Hawks.

Dakota State (S.D.) earned the North Star Athletic Association four-game series sweep over Dickinson State (N.D.) in Madison, S.D.  The Trojans swept the Blue Hawks 17-4 and 11-3 on April 5, followed by 21-6 and 13-9 victories on April 6.  Dakota State extended their winning streak to six games, raising their overall record to 28-9 and 11-1 NSAA conference record.  Dickinson State, who defeated NCAA Division II Mary (N.D.) 5-4 on April 2, is 6-29 overall record and 3-12 conference record.

Viterbo (Wis.) and Mayville State (N.D.) split their four-game series held in La Crosse, Wis.  The V-Hawks won the series opener by the score of 3-1 on April 5.  Both teams played a tripleheader on April 6, with the Comets going 2-1 record.  MSU defeated VU 4-3 and 9-1 in the first two games, while VU shut down MSU 8-0 in the finale.  Viterbo is 8-32 overall record and 7-9 record in the North Star contests.  Mayville State, who were swept by Briar Cliff (Iowa) 6-5 and 7-5 on April 2, is 11-27 overall record and 6-9 NSAA conference record.

After being swept by Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) 5-3 and 8-6 on April 3, Valley City State (N.D.) earned the North Star’s four-game series split at Waldorf (Iowa).  The Warriors shut down the Vikings 3-0 in the first game, followed by VCSU’s 3-2 game two victory on April 5.  WU earned a 4-3 victory in the first game on April 6, followed by VCSU’s 7-5 victory in the second game.  Valley City State is 13-22 overall record and 5-7 NSAA conference record.  Waldorf is 14-18 overall record and 4-8 record in NSAA games.

No. 13 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) was idle from the North Star conference play last weekend.  The Bruins played a 3-game series with Peru State (Neb.), sweeping the Bobcats at home on April 5 by the scores of 11-3 and 10-0.  BU fell short in the third game of the series at Peru State, falling 7-6 in 10 innings.  Bellevue is 25-11 overall record on the season and 11-1 conference in the league.

Looking Ahead
Mayville State (N.D.) travels to Dickinson State (N.D.) on Tuesday for the make-up North Star Athletic Association contest, followed by a non-conference game.  Waldorf (Iowa) remains home for a non-conference contest versus Mount Mercy (Iowa), while No. 13 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) visits Midland (Neb.) on the same day.

The North Star Athletic Association action continues Friday-Saturday with Dakota State (S.D.) at Valley City State (N.D.), Mayville State at Bellevue and Waldorf at Dickinson State (N.D.).  Viterbo (Wis.) will be idle from the NSAA conference action this weekend.
