YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota House State Affairs Committee approved a constitutional amendment that would allow the state to require some Medicaid recipients to have a job.
Voters approved a constitutional amendment to expand Medicaid coverage last November.
Rick Weiland with “Dakotans for Health” who sponsored the amendment petition drive says some legislators don’t want to go through with the expansion.
Weiland says most people that will qualify under the expansion are working now.
Weiland says republicans tried to short circuit the amendment process in last years primary election.
South Dakota House Tuesday approved the bill on a 60-8 vote.
