Dakota’s Promise introduced as Appropriations Committee bill

BROOKINGS, S.D. (KJJQ) – A bill to establish a needs-based scholarship for South Dakotans who attend a university in the state has been introduced.

Brookings Representative Tim Reed says this year’s Dakota’s Promise bill has been introduced as an Appropriations Committee bill.

Reed says it will come down to available dollars.

And there are nearby states, including Minnesota, that offer needs-based scholarships to South Dakota students.

South Dakota is the only state without some sort of needs-based scholarship program.

A hearing date on the bill, which is SB 72, has not yet been set.
