PIERRE, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- According to the South Dakota Secretary of State’s website, Democratic candidate for Governor, Dan Ahlers has selected Sisseton’s Steven McCleerey to be his Lt. Governor.

Tuesday was the deadline to have Ahler’s choice for Lt. Governor.

McCleerey was a former South Dakota Representative representing District 1 back in 2015-2021.

This marks the second straight South Dakota Gubernatorial election where the Democrat’s choicenhas come from northeastern South Dakota.

In 2022, their choice was Jennifer Healy Keintz of Eden.  McCleerey is from the Sisseton area.

Ahlers & McCleerey will face incumbents Governor Larry Rhoden and Lt. Governor Tony Venhuizen in the November elections.
