The memorial service for Darlene Severson, 83, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:00am, Friday, August 7, 2026, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Rev. Jay Rossman officiating. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery at a later date. Darlene died Monday, August 3, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

Darlene Conn was born August 13, 1942, to Alvin and Pearl (Brick) Conn in Aberdeen. She grew up and attended school in Aberdeen. After graduating from high school, Darlene was united in marriage to Gary E Severson on April 23, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Darlene worked at Virginia Café and Ellas Café. She then began working at Dakota Midland Campus. She stayed with them when Avera bought them and retired in 2008. After retiring, Darlene helped at her daughter Diane’s daycare. Darlene loved babies. She was an avid reader and liked putting puzzles together. She enjoyed playing cards, especially when she was able to play with Gary and their close friends, Jim and Lorraine Bohms. Darlene also liked fishing. For many years she was known around the Aberdeen area as the corn lady.

Grateful for having shared Darlene’s life are her children: Diane (Gary) Bird, David (Diane) Severson, Terry (Deb) Severson and Todd (Sheri) Severson; grandchildren: Travis Skeide, Joshua (Christin) Bird, Jennifer Kelley, Brittany Stuchl, Bridgette (Steven) Hartung, Tyler (Shauna) Severson, Chase Severson, Ashley (Lincoln) Griffith, Brett (Cheyenne) Feser, Brianna Traxxis, Allison, Patrick, Tynlee, Arabelle, Alexanna Severson, Dawson and Jackson Ehnes, Rabecca (Tyler) Rohrbach, and Bethany Severson; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Grace, Jocelyn, Cailyn, Braelyn, Gavin, Jackson, Avery, Ryker, Oliver, Taelynn, Charlie, Roehn, Karter, Malachi, Loria, Jovi, Deon, Odin, Frey, Atticus, and Avery; siblings: Ronnie (Sharon) Conn, Harriet (Harold) Jones, Ray (Isabella) Conn, Gloria (Gary) Mundt, and LeRoy Conn, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceding Darlene in death are her parents Alvin and Pearl Conn, her husband Gary, brothers: Larry Conn and Richard Conn, one nephew, Dustin, and sisters-in-law Diane Conn and Sheila Conn.
