ABERDEEN, S.D. (Press Release) – Dr. Elvira Sanatullova-Allison will step down from her role as dean of the Millicent Atkins School of Education at Northern State University.
Sanatullova-Allison will transition to a tenured faculty position, a change that will give her the opportunity to focus more closely on working with students and developing future educators.
Sanatullova-Allison came to Northern in fall 2018 after serving as acting dean and unit head of education, College of Education and Professional Studies, for Shepherd University in West Virginia. During her time at Northern, the School of Education has made progress toward a master’s degree in special education, working hand-in-hand with the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; and has increased collaboration with regional school districts.
“Dr. Sanatullova-Allison has led efforts that have resulted in a greater student interest in our School of Education, and we thank her for that valuable work,” said Dr. Joelle Lien, NSU interim provost/vice president for academic affairs. “Though her role is shifting, she will continue to make an impact in the School of Education and its students, which is her true passion.”
An internal search will now begin for an interim dean of Northern’s School of Education. A committee will then be formed to lead a nationwide search for a new permanent dean.
