Delores Miesen, 93

Delores (Meyer) Miesen, 93, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Friday, September 27, 2024, at Prince of Peace Long Term Care facility in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  Family will be present starting at 6:00 p.m.   A prayer service, time of sharing, and the Catholic Daughters leading the Divine Mercy Chaplet will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield.  Reverend John Short will officiate.  Following a time for lunch and fellowship in the church hall, burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Zell, SD.

Delores Marie Meyer, daughter of Ben and Bertha (Wortman) Meyer, was born on November 23, 1930, in Faulkton, SD.  She graduated from Polo High School and worked at the Northwestern Public Service in Redfield.  On October 2, 1950, she married Albert Miesen. Together they raised six daughters and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.  She worked at the family grocery store until it closed in 1988.  In 2005, she and Albert moved to Redfield until Albert’s death in 2013.  Delores then moved to Sioux Falls to live with her daughter, Terrie.  She later moved into Prince of Peace Assisted Living and eventually into Prince of Peace Long Term Care.

Delores was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Zell.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and taught religious education classes for many years.  Delores enjoyed sewing and crocheting, making afghans for every member of her extended family and many others.  She was happiest when spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters:  Sandy (Dan) Coover; Betty (Don) Haufschild; Pat (Dan) Schilling; Terrie; Jackie (Jeff) Fiegen; and Mary (Dave) Schneider; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents; Albert’s parents; sister, Nadine; and brothers, Bill and Harlan.
