SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Department of Education announced last week that the scheduled meeting of the Board of Education Standards was postponed to a later, unannounced date.
The meeting would have included a public hearing to consider the adoption and amendment of proposed rules to prohibit the adoption of content standards that promote inherently divisive concepts and revise language regarding waivers of administrative rules.
Democratic Governor candidate Jamie Smith says politics is behind all of it.
Smith says the new civics and social studies standards are not age appropriate.
Smith says schools would have a difficult time adapting the new, proposed standards.
The Board of Education Standards was responding to an Executive Order from Governor Kristi Noem to refine the standards.
