Democrats seeking candidates for statewide office

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Democratic Party says it is actively seeking candidates for statewide office but is not naming names.

So, for example, Party Chair Paula Hawks won’t speculate about former candidate for governor Billie Sutton.

Political analysts often talk about Sutton because of the credible campaign he conducted against Kristi Noem.

So far, no Democrat has stepped up against Republicans Dusty Johnson or Mike Rounds for 2020.

Hawks doesn’t want to steal anyone’s thunder.

Hawks says the party is also making a concerted effort to recruit candidates for the state legislature, and for local offices.
