Demolition of Watertown’s old City Hall to begin soon

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)- Watertown’s old City Hall building is sitting empty these days.

The city moved into a former bank building one block to the west this summer, and they recently auctioned off what was left behind in the old City Hall.

Mayor Ried Holien says that sets the stage for the demolition of the building, which should start happening soon.

That site won’t be left vacant though. Developers plan to build a two level, 30-room Airstay Hotel there.

The developers are picking up the cost of demolishing the former City Hall and clearing the site in exchange for purchasing the property from the city for one-dollar.
