Developmental Center in Redfield struggling to fill staff openings

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield continues to have difficulty filing staff openings.

Governor Kristi Noem recommended in her budget to eliminate thirty jobs that have not been filled.

Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, a member of the Appropriations Committee, says they were updated on the situation at their last meeting.

Hunhoff says the Redfield area can’t supply the needed workers.

Hunhoff says any changes in operations of the Center has to keep the patients needs as a priority.

Hunhoff says she is on a subcommittee that will investigate further during the 2020 legislative session.
