After long term medical issues Diane Kay Drobny died Wednesday June 25, 2025, at Sanford Hospital Aberdeen SD. We will be having a celebration of life gathering July 12 from 3:00-6:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Diane Kay Esche was born March 18, 1949, at the Peabody Hospital in Webster, SD., and lived on the Esche Homeplace, one mile south of Bristol, until 1960 when her folks moved to a farm near Doland, SD. She attended school in Doland then, and later in Tulare, when her folks moved to a farm near there. Diane quit high school and married Douglas Wayne Blume of Redfield, SD in March of 1966. They had one son, Todd Douglas Blume, born April 11,1966 in Redfield, SD. Diane and Todd moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to live near her sister, Barbara Esche Timms and family. Diane gave birth to a daughter, Dawn Kay, on November 30, 1969, in Tulsa. Diane completed her GED in March of 1971. Diane married Larry Dean Drobny on June 23, 1971. Larry provided for the family working as a highway construction-worker. Larry and Diane had two children; Michelle Lynn, born July 10, 1972 at Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and Joseph Dean, born August 8, 1973, at Sidney, Nebraska. The family moved to Stratford, SD. The children attended school in Warner, SD, and were actively involved in 4-H activities. Their hobby farm had horses, dogs, cats, chickens and rabbits. She loved gardening and canning. Diane later lived in Bristol before retiring and moving to Aberdeen SD.
Diane is survived by two sisters: Rose Henze and Barbara (James) Timms and her four children: Todd (Vikki) Drobny of Frankfort SD, Dawn (Jim) Holmes of Omaha NE, Michelle (Jason) Braun of Wetonka SD and Joseph (Jackie) Drobny of Mina SD; Grandchildren: Randy, Samantha, Aleisha & Shantel Drobny, Carson, Preston & Jordan Holmes, Tate (Anjelica) & Sheldon (Jennifer) Uthe, & Trenton Kehrwald, Brenden, Zacharey & Kaylynn Drobny; Great-Grandchildren: Kayden, Taelynn, Brook, Brody, Tucker, Kenna, Ellie, James and Judson.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Alice Esche, Sisters: Artis Walton, Sandra Esche & Joane Schimmel & brothers: Floyd W. Allen & Roger Esche.
