ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – Three finalists for the position of Northern State University Director of Athletics will visit Northern for on-campus interviews starting this week.
The finalists’ visit schedule is as follows:
- Thursday, March 3: Gavin Viano
- Monday, March 7: Nate Davis
- Tuesday, March 8: Andrew Carter
During their visits, the candidates will meet with various constituent groups. More information about each candidate can be found below.
Gavin Viano is currently Director of Athletics and Recreation at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. Prior to that, he was Associate Athletic Director/Director of Development at Davidson College in North Carolina; Senior Managing Director of Athletic Fundraising at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire; Director of Athletic Development at Drexel University in Pennsylvania; Development Officer, Athletics, for Fordham University in New York; Assistant Director of Athletic Development for St. John’s University in New York; and Assistant Director, Clark Fund, and Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Coach, at Clark University in Massachusetts.
Viano received his bachelor’s degree from Clark University; a Master of Science in Sport Management from Drexel University; and a Certificate from the Sports Management Institute, co-sponsored by the University of Michigan and the University of Texas.
Nate Davis is currently Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Pittsburg State University in Kansas. Prior to that, he served as Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Promotion and Licensing at Northwest Missouri State University; Operations and Sales Manager at West Texas Golf Cars; Assistant Athletic Director for Operations at Abilene Christian University in Texas; and Assistant Athletic Director for Operations at Southwest Baptist University in Missouri.
Davis received his bachelor’s degree as well as his MBA from Southwest Baptist University.
Andrew Carter is currently the Director of Athletics at Minot State University in North Dakota. Prior to that, he was Director of Athletics for Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Director of Athletics for Armstrong Atlantic State University in Georgia, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics for Newberry College in South Carolina, and Director of Athletics for Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis.
Carter attended East Central College in Union, Mo.; received his bachelor’s degree from Missouri Baptist University; and received his MBA from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.
The candidate chosen as Northern’s new Director of Athletics will replace Josh Moon, who stepped down after nine years to accept the same role at the NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Moon was only the fourth person to serve as NSU Director of Athletics since 1956, preceded by Clark Swisher, Dr. James Kretchman and Bob Olson.
