WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)- Two current members of the South Dakota House of Representatives are running against each other for a legislative seat in the June 4th primary–but the winner will hold a different title when all the ballots have been counted.
Fred Deutsch and Stephanie Sauder are giving up their House seats to run against each other for the open Senate seat in District 4, where current Senator John Wiik cannot run again because of term limits.
Sauder says she’s gotten to know Deutsch well over the last couple of legislative sessions, primarily because of their seating assignments in the House chamber.
Deutsch says he believes he’s the most conservative candidate in this race.
The winner of the June 4th primary race will assume the title of Senator, as no Democrat candidate filed to run in District 4.
