Douglas Middle School students arrested after soft lockdown

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA News)  —  Two 13 year-old middle school students were arrested, after a soft lockdown of all Douglas Schools Wednesday morning.

The Douglas School System and law enforcement were notified of a student with a possible weapon at Douglas Middle School, and a “secure status” situation was declared around 10:48 AM. School resource officers located a B-B gun a short time later, and the secure status was lifted at 11:34 AM.

School officials, Pennington County Sheriff and Box Elder School Resource Officers, and Box Elder Police Department all responded.
